It's a girl!

DISCOVERY COVES FIRST BABY ANTEATER THRIVES WITH HUMAN CARE

It's a girl! Discovery Cove's lesser anteater, Cypress, is now a proud mom to the first baby anteater born at the park. The new bundle of joy was born September 16, via the first c-section our vets have ever done on an anteater. Since then, the little girl has been doing well under the intensive care of our animal training staff.

When the new mom initially showed little interest in the newborn, our animal trainers quickly stepped in to help. They provided the tiny baby additional supplemental bottle feedings around the clock (every four hours) and slowly began introducing the two together. Now nursing full-time, the baby is tipping the scales at less than one pound and is more than 5 inches long. She now spends her days nursing, resting and bonding with mom.
