SeaWorld Orlando’s biggest-ever attraction expansion, opening spring 2013.

SEAWORLD NEWS:
Antarctica - Empire of the Penguin will be SeaWorld Orlando’s biggest-ever attraction expansion, opening spring 2013.
Through the years, SeaWorld Orlando has taken you to far-flung corners of the globe, immersing you in exotic places and introducing them to unique worlds of adventure. But no journey is bigger -- or as incredible -- as the one to come in 2013. It’s a voyage to the bottom-of-the-world, to the coldest and windiest continent, to a place of ice more than 9,000 feet thick. It’s a journey to Antarctica and to the empire of the penguin.
You’ll be surrounded by the sights, sounds and awesome encounters found in this frozen place, embarking on a one-of-a-kind ride and an incredible family adventure. You’ll experience the mystery and wonder of life on the ice through the eyes of a penguin, sensing the beauty and drama of their sometimes-dangerous habitat. Antarctica – Empire of the Penguin combines closer-than-ever animal connections with state-of-the-art interactive ride technologies for adventures that are different each time. And, it’s safe to say Antarctica – Empire of the Penguin will be the coldest theme park attraction in the world!
A year-and-a-half from opening at SeaWorld Orlando, details are few. For now, SeaWorld Orlando’s Antarctica will stay as mysterious as its namesake continent.
“Only SeaWorld and its parks can take you on these journeys or bring these experiences to life,” said Orlando Parks President, Terry Prather. “We’re excited about what the future holds for our parks and for our fans.”

"Transformers" movie franchise is coming to Universal's theme park in Orlando in the summer of 2013.

UNIVERSAL NEWS:
The popular 3-D ride based on the "Transformers" movie franchise is coming to Universal's theme park in Orlando in the summer of 2013.

"Transformers: The Ride—3D" opened this past May at Universal Studios Hollywood and debuted in December 2011 at Universal Studios Singapore. The ride in Orlando will be the same as the other two.
"This is a wildly popular ride," said Mark Woodbury, president of Universal Creative, in a phone interview. "It's technologically groundbreaking and tremendously innovative, experimentally immersive and exciting in a way like no other."
Michael Bay, director of the three hit "Transformers" movies, worked as a creative consultant on the ride, and the movie's actors provided voice talent for the ride as well. But the attraction offers a story line not found in the films.
"You travel this great journey with these characters in the middle of this epic battle that takes place in city streets," said Woodbury.
The attraction puts riders inside a 12-person vehicle designed to look like a nimble new Transformer named Evac, who goes on a breakneck chase from the headquarters of the top-secret NEST agency through city streets, across rooftops and even inside an office building on the hunt for a missing shard of the AllSpark, the powerful Transformers artifact.
The action is digitally projected on 14 screens among real-world sets that the ride vehicles move into and past, mixing computer-generated fantasy with reality.

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights

The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights on the Streets of America at Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park is a breathtaking seasonal display featuring millions of glittering lights perfectly synchronized to holiday music.
The lights are so extensive you may find it hard to comprehend their magnitude. Entire buildings are blanketed in sheets of multi-colored lights, and thousands more lights form twirling carousels, heavenly angels, and even Santa and his reindeer. Approximately every 10 minutes, the lights dim and then dramatically spring to life — dynamically choreographed to traditional holiday music. You have to see the effect to believe it!
Some nights, if you truly believe in holiday magic, the show is capped off with an enchanted flurry of snow.
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights started modestly in Arkansas as a single home's annual display. Every year, Jennings Osborne and his family set up an elaborate collection of holiday lights and over the years, the collection of lights grew, and grew... and grew! In 1995, the Osborne family decided to share their magic with the world, and Walt Disney World Resort happily offered to become the new permanent home for this exceptional exhibition of holiday cheer.
The Osborne Family Spectacle of Dancing Lights is included with standard admission to Disney's Hollywood Studios theme park.

CAMP DISNEY 2012

Ever wanted to see it all? In just 1 day? That's a lot of Disney to fit into 14 hours. But we did it!
@ 8:00am we started our grand trek in Hollywood Studios. We were given a nice cloth bag with a mister, a water bottle, and a Disney Photo pass DVD. Breakfast was at the Sci-fi dine in and offered a good selection of breakfast goodies. The Sci-Fi dine in is set up like an old drive in movie. Each table is made into a 50s style car and there is a big screen that shows old 50s sci-fi films. After a quick spiel by "Parker Hopper" our camp counselor and  tour guide, we headed to see one man's dream where they have some of the models used to show concept ideas for the theme parks. There is a huge model of the new Fantasyland expansion going on at the Magic Kingdom now. From there we headed through Hollywood studios past the Tower of Terror and  the Aerosmith Rocking Roller coaster. Once on the bus we received our first merit badge. One down and 8 more badges to go.  Follow along with us over the next few days as we blog about our Camp Disney 2012 experiences.

Keeping cool outside the pool.

Summer time in Florida can be hot. With this summer heat wave breaking records all over the United States it is good to know that there are areas in the local theme parks that you can cool off. Often they are set up with the kids in mind. It’s a good idea to make sure that your kids have an outfit that can get wet. Adults can get into the fun as well so wear the right clothes when you head out each day. Some rides are themed around water and it’s a safe bet that you will get wet if not soaked on the rides. Bring some zip lock bags for your phone and wallet.
Another way to beat the heat is to be at the parks early. In the morning the lines are shorter and the heat is lower. As the heat picks up, take that time to watch some indoor shows to cool off. Drink plenty of water and wear at hat. Welcome to Florida, now go have some fun in the sun.

Here is a quick list of the water areas in the theme parks.
Magic Kingdom:  Casey Jr Splash and soak station. Fantasyland.
SeaWorld: Shamus Harbor.

Epcot Center: Fountain area by World Showcase.

SeaWorld Orlando has a new addition

There is something magical about dolphins. People love them and love to watch them.  There are boat tours that take you out to see them in a natural environment.  Swimming with them at Discovery Cove is an outstanding addition to your Orlando vacation. SeaWorld Orlando has a new addition, a dolphin calf was born Saturday morning 6/30/12 at 8:47 a.m. The young calf’s sex is unknown at this time, but it has been seen nursing and bonding with its mom, Starkey, both a good indication that the calf is doing well. This is Starkey’s sixth birth. Park guests can see the pair at SeaWorld’s Dolphin Nursery where pregnant dolphins, new mothers, their calves and experienced moms live together.

Casey Jr. Splash and Soak Station

Summer time is here and wow its hot. Welcome to Florida. The new Fantasyland expansion is coming along nicely. We took some time to visit the new Casey Jr. Splash and Soak station this week. If you are looking for a way to cool off then this is the right place to do it. Water is going everywhere. The train is packed with animals from the Disney's Dumbo film. They are all shooting water at you as you walk through. Splash N Soak hmmmm, good name. This area is great for children who need to run and play and the roller coaster is perfect for young coaster enthusiasts. The new Fantasyland Train station will take you to Main Street or Frontierland. The new Dumbo ride has a indoor que, so you can cool off there while you're waiting to ride. Grab your fastpass for Dumbo at Mickey's Philarmagic and head over to the Tea Cups for some Disney style fun.

Turtle Trek at Sea World Orlando

Turtle Trek

Sea World has opened Turtle Trek the world's first 3D 360 dome theater experience. In the film you follow a sea turtle from birth through life. As she makes her quest across the ocean she has encounters with a variety of other sea life. Against the odds she makes it past all the crabs and birds to make it into the ocean. There she will face new challenges. Sharks are not the only dangers turtles face. Even plastic bags pose a threat. They resemble tasty jelly fish as they float by and if eaten it can be fatal.  The film is action packed and exciting. Sea World has also done a live action documentary called Turtle: The Incredible Journey. Attempting a perilous odyssey its ancestors have undertaken for millions of years, one loggerhead turtle swims from a beach in Florida across the Atlantic Ocean, encountering stunning sea creatures as well as serious hazards created by modern man.
The line had holding areas with large viewing windows into the Manatee rescue habitat. Then you move to the next area where you get to see live sea turtles that have been saved by Sea Worlds rescue program. This area is narrated by a host who shared some great insights into what Sea World's rescue efforts over the years. From there it's time to get your 3-D glasses and head into the dome. All viewing areas are good but we liked the area between the podium in the center and the door. The 3-D is good and gives you a real feeling of being immersed in the world of sea turtles.

After the film there is an area with an above the water view of the habitats you just were viewing. You can also play Race for the Beach Game for the kids to play. Be sure to get your picture taken with the life size statue of the manatee Mother and her calf.

SeaWorld Orlando Now Caring for Two Hawksbill Turtle Hatchlings

SeaWorld Orlando animal rescue team received two hawksbill turtle hatchlings earlier this week. They are approximately two months old.

The first was found at Melbourne Beach by a tourist and was dropped off at the Sea Turtle Preservation Society in Melbourne Beach, Fla. It weighs only 2 ounces and is nearly 3 inches long. The turtle was in lethargic and weak condition when it arrived.

The second turtle was found in Cocoa Beach and also brought to the Sea Turtle Preservation Society. It weighs 2.5 ounces and is just over 3 inches long.

This turtle was covered with algae and fauna, as seen in the photo.

Both hatchlings were brought to SeaWorld for examination and continued care, including, feeding, giving fluids and around-the-clock observation and monitoring.
Because of their age and size, they’re living in a small brooder where the temperature is kept at a constant 84 degrees. They are in the water several times throughout the day but also spend time dry in order to conserve their energy. The turtles are taken home in their brooder each night by a turtle expert (aquarist) for middle-of-the-night feedings.
It’s a tough journey ahead but both turtles are looking better and are showing positive signs.Hawksbill turtles are endangered due to human exploitation and habitat degradation. This year, SeaWorld Orlando has rescued 10 sea turtles and released three. For more than 45 years, SeaWorld Parks & Entertainment has helped animals in need -- ill, injured and orphaned. More than 20,000 animals have been rescued by our experts. SeaWorld's animal rescue team is on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.
